SLOGAN: Investing In Disaster Risk Reduction For Resilience

The United Nations General Assembly has designated 13 October as International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) used to promote a global culture of disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness.

The commemoration of IDDR is a platform for Practitioners in disaster risk management and policy makers to reflect on achievements in reducing the risk of disasters. But also, it is a platform for advocating further commitments by the Political Leadership, Technocrats in an attempt to reduce the risk of disasters, including the development of new risks.

IDDR provides an opportunity to acknowledge substantial progress made towards reducing risk of disasters and losses in lives, livelihoods and health. Such an outcome is the aim of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Japan in March 2015.
