CHIEF DIRECTORATE: DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT

Contribute to the implementation of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002, with specific reference to the integrated and coordinated system of disaster management, with special emphasis on prevention, mitigation, preparedness, and response by national, provincial, and organs of state, statutory functionaries, and other role-players in disaster management. To contribute towards the effective planning intervention and support of disaster management activities.

Functions:

  • Verification of disasters to enable accurate classification of disasters in provinces and municipalities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of post-disaster projects.
  • Render support, cooperation, and administrative guidance to other spheres of government and stakeholders.
  • Disaster incident reporting and recording.
