DEPUTY MINISTER REV. PRINCE BURNS-NCAMASHE LEADS SOUTH AFRICAN DELEGATION TO BRICS MINISTERIAL ROUNDTABLE ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Rev. Prince Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, is leading the South African delegation to the BRICS Ministerial Roundtable on Disaster Management, taking place in New Delhi, India, from 22 to 24 July 2026.
Convened under India’s 2026 BRICS Chairmanship, the Ministerial Roundtable is held under the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The gathering seeks to strengthen collaboration among BRICS member states by sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative approaches to building resilient communities capable of withstanding the growing impacts of climate change and disasters.
The Deputy Minister is accompanied by the Ministerial Special Advisor, Dr Albert Mokoena and the Head of the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), Dr Elias Sithole.
The technical and ministerial engagements provide an important platform for BRICS countries to deepen cooperation on disaster risk reduction (DRR), disaster preparedness, disaster response, recovery, and coordinated multi-hazard early warning systems. The discussions are also expected to advance practical collaboration on strengthening institutional capacity, enhancing information and technology sharing, and promoting sustainable disaster resilience across BRICS member states.
South Africa’s participation reflects the country’s commitment to international cooperation in disaster governance and its continued efforts to strengthen resilience, safeguard communities, and improve disaster management systems in line with global best practice.
