EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND EARLY WARNING SYSTEM  DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM IN THE AUTONOMOUS DISTRICT OF ABIDJAN  3rd STUDY VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA

By Communications on August 18, 2026

The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) is hosting a high-level technical delegation from Côte d’Ivoire from 16 to 21 August 2026 as part of a knowledge-sharing study tour focused on disaster preparedness, emergency response and early warning systems.

The programme provides an opportunity to exchange knowledge and best practices on disaster risk reduction, operational readiness, emergency coordination and institutional collaboration.

Throughout the visit, the delegation will engage with key South African stakeholders, including the NDMC, South African Weather Service, provincial disaster management structures, emergency services, humanitarian organisations, academic institutions and technology partners.

The study tour is particularly relevant to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire’s economic hub, which faces increasing risks associated with rapid urbanisation, flooding and climate-related hazards. These challenges highlight the importance of strong preparedness measures, effective early warning systems and coordinated emergency response to protect lives, livelihoods and critical infrastructure.

The programme also showcases South Africa’s integrated approach to disaster management, including contingency planning, early warning monitoring, emergency response coordination, humanitarian relief and cooperation across government, civil society and the private sector.

The visit strengthens cooperation between South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire while providing practical lessons and innovative approaches that can contribute to safer, more resilient communities.
